It appears that Hartigan has signed with a club in that new Russian Continental League where he will make way more money than he would have made over here. He looked good at the end of the season, but there was no way this guy was going to make the big club.

Line 1: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom Line 2: Hossa, Samuelsen, Filpula Line 3: Cleary, Hudler, Franzen Line 4: Draper, Kopecky, Helm DP 1: Lidstrom, Rafalski DP 2: Stuart, Lebda DP 3: Kronwall, Lilja SG: Osgood BG: Howard
I'm not sure how many players you can have on an NHL roster, (including all scratches–healthy and injured), but if I had to guess, I'd say 27. That leaves me seven more players. So, here's the best of the rest: Ville Leino - I'm hearing nothing but good things about him. Justin Abdelkader - Gotta give a Sparty a chance.* Also, his name sounds like a car part. Derek Meech - Impressive in his play. Ty Conklin - We can't just drop him! Chris Chelios - He's not working his lats to play triple-A hockey. Tomas Kopecky - He's the next Lebda. Mattias Rittola - You've heard of the "6th man". Rittola is not just a kind of pasta (I think), he's also the "27th man".
It's in the name: Aaron Downey is going back down, McCarty is not coming back.
*Discussion topic: Who gets a starting job, first, Justin Abdelkader or Drew Stanton?

Looks like Downey has signed a two way deal, so he will be back for next season. blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/08/downey_will_resign_with_wings.htmlI'm not sure what this means for Big Mac. He probably has a similar type offer out there for him to sign if he wants it. the Wings still have to sign boh Chelios and Quincey and they are hard up against the Salary Cap.

According to the Detroit News, it appears that the Wings are close to signing the last of their Free Agents, McCarty, Chelios, and Quincey. McCarty is expected to sign a two way deal so my guesss is going to spend a fair amount of time in Grand Rapids.
How good are the Griffins starting to look for this year? To start the year you are going to have Jimmy Howard and that Larsson kid in goal (who apparently looked really good in the prospects camp earlier this summmer). As for forwards, Helm, Abdelkader, Leino, Big Mac, and a few other forwards that the Wings are pretty high on. And then you have Ericcsson, Kindl, and maybe Quincey on D. If those players were on any other teams, chances are they would already be with the big club. We are going to be seeing these kids an awful lot in the next 2 - 3 years as they start replacing some of our veterns.

I was listening to Home Ice on XM while I was driving back home and they said Babcock announced what the top 3 lines were going to be heading into training camp.
Hossa - Dats - Homer Mule - Hank - Hudler Sammy - Flip - Cleary
I would assume the 4th line will be some combination of Draper and Maltby either Downey, Mac, or Kopecky.
I am really surprised he is putting Hudler with Hank and Franzen. I thought that would be Flip's spot for sure. Flip has shown really good chemistry with Franzen so I thought it would be a no brainer to keep him with Franzen.

It appears that the Wings have resigned Chelios. The same article mentions that the Wings and McCarty have pretty much agreed on a two way deal similar to Downey's, but they are waiting to sign it to see if the player renew the current CBA so that they could add some incentive bonuses to his deal.
Quincey is the only guy left to sign, and training camp is only 17 days away.....
