Nope, not joking... and I was actually born in Dayton, Ohio. To be fair though, the zip code lines were drawn up REALLY oddly, so me being in Boring was kind of like someone living in the pan-handle of Oklahoma... only there by technicality.

I think Chad is my fave podjockie now.he's so right about how easy katakana and hiragana are(one week, maybe TWO if you have no familiarity what-so-ever.... and he mentioned me this week.
Its all the verb forms and kanji that are tricky.... now I want that kanji flip program he mentioned...but I dont have the cashflow to drop on a iphone or ipod touch right now.
learning japanese is like appreciating nature. you can watch movies and anime which is like looking out a window. you can get a book which is like going for a walk in a park. but eventally you'll want to climb mountains and get fluent.
unfortunatly my japanese is really lazy and out of shape...so it'll be a long slow walk up mount fuji.

Ok, so I just finished this episode and I want to say that I agree with Mike. I will make this made know as to how I agree with him in the nomination section.
Ok, so, since GOTY is not on there, I will nominate Rock Band 2. I played a bit of that and it has a better UI than the first one did. And if Mike is still as passionate about it he will second it. So since it was not the same game and just reskinned, I say it is a sequel and therefore nominateable for GOTY.

Nope is right. As much as Rock Band 2 is a good game, it is SERIOUSLY the last game with different songs and a new career mode that makes me play 1000 of the same songs I don't care to play.
As much as I value Wil's opinion, this is just fact. There is nothing revolutionary about the game, it's almost like giving Street Fighter II Championship Edition 'game of the year' after Street Fighter II won it the year before. It's just not different enough.

I think there is no reason why Rock Band 2 shouldn't be in the running ... the only reason why you guys are blocking it is because you don't want me to vote it high on my list.

Truth. Would you call DDR 2nd mix a full-fledged sequel to the original? All it really did was add some more songs.
I believe that's called expansion.
Best expansion of the year probably goes to Rock Band. If not, the Halo 3 map expansions were OK.
Hahaha!

Hey Podjockies,
Here is the one thing that you fail to remember...all a game needs is a first and a second to get on the list. If Mike seconds it, after I have firsted it, or vice versa, then it will be on.
Is this a correct or an incorrect statement.
Secondly, since when does ones opinion of (as Chad said) "it's just not different enough" constitute that being law. I feel that it is a great injustice if Rock Band 2 is not at least considered. As I stated before, the interface is better than the first Rockband. It looks better, it added content, and the graphics and performance of the game has been imporved...how can you not call that a sequel? It was not just added content. It is a different game, a stand alone, you do not need the first to play the second, that is an expansion pack.

Damnit Wil, you're going to make this an actual contender now, and I'm not happy at all about that. In fact, it's rather poopy.

Sweet. That was my whole goal was to make you poopy...just kidding, I just want all games, regardless of personal opinion, to have a fair shot at it.
Just a thought...did I say anything that is not true or that you disagree with? Or was it just the thought of Rackband 2 being on the list?

Wil ... you are awesome. The fact that an "Expansion" would NEED the first game to run is great point. Since Rock Band 2 does not in any way require the first game to play ... I think this argument is done. Rock Band 2 is officially in the running for GOTY.
Also ... when you add in the fact that you're able to import the songs from the first game ... I think it makes 2 that much more impressive.

Oh ... and in case you haven't figured it out yet ... the "BOSS" just laid down the law ... so deal with it.

I'm agreeing with Mike on this one. Expansions do REQUIRE a previous game to play. I think it is the importing content factor that muddled things, but that really is more of a feature than anything else. It reminds me of Guild Wars... it had 3 stand-alone games that could inter-connect, but only one real Expansion.
Can we agree to this terminology? Stand-Alone - Plays on its own Expansion - Requires a stand-alone to play Remake - A stand-alone game that has been updated but not completely revamped.

If Dynasty Warriors 15 was indeed freaking awesome ... then why would you have a problem with it? I mean ... our forerunners for game of the year are all ALL SEQUELS. Fallout "3" ... Metal Gear Solid "4" ... Fable "2" ... Peggle "Nights" ... for God's sake ... if Peggle "Fucking" Nights is in the game of the year running ... then Rock Band 2 HAS to be included.

Chad's not happy with it, but at least he agrees. Quality isn't what makes a game stand-alone or an expansion, after all, and we all play enough sequals that are only marginal upgrades from the previous games.
