Listening to this show now... some things occur to me: 1- My voice is somehow getting higher pitched... Fucking Hell. 2- My voice somehow blends into the background.... like seriously, it is too easy to talk over. When I get my computer back I am boosting the power in my microphone somehow. 3- This is a long show! 4- I swear a lot... I don't care though. 5- We all talk during other peoples' good words a lot. 6- Space Jam was the best theme song of the early 90's.

Nice try derek, but its not a skype flaw. I think that chase just needs to boost the volume of his microphone in the skype options. When I get home tonight I'll see what mine are set at and have everyone change theirs to that so its more universal.
If the fact you're in Japan makes a difference in getting drown out ... Its because you're hearing things a split second after us americhan folks are

Mike's time-lag theory makes sence... thats a long distance for data to travel., and its probably going over satelite rather than some massive underwater cable... so it would be about 4 times farther than we can imagine using a map or globe.
I think its easy for Chad to drown out others, but he's using some form of anger/angst based ki power. Chase's yoda (that he said he'd be practicing) was totally drowned out... a jedi-master cant get no respect around here..lol.
Is his voice getting higher? I'll have to listen to my mp3s of the first show with chase, and compare, because thats rather interesting if true. perhaps it just SOUNDS higher to himself, kinda like that family guy with lois going "do i really sound like that? oh gawwwd"
but no space jam isnt the best theme of the 90's, that honour goes to fresh prince of belair.
"yo, homes, smell ya later!"

perhaps its both volume and distance. .. not "cause and effect" but "causes and effect".
also props to Mike, i didnt even notice the 1st time that he said "americhan."...ubersome.
perhaps next time yourr all an this "skype"(is this the same skype thats in myspace-IM ?), you should test the theories, first volume, if that doesnt fix it, then synchronize watches gentlemen and do a data/time-test

Sorry Derek ... I was checking this post on my phone and the first time I read it ... it made it seem like you where talking about the volume being affected by the distance from the host.
I think it's because I had Chase's theory that he was quieter in my head at the time. (Which he is ... he does need to turn his mic up a little)

To be fair, Chad and I have internet connections that make yours look like someone is pissing in buckets and passing it on in binary order to a monkey with a typewriter. I will stick with turning the microphone up and.

A few things,
- Flight of the Conchords is awesome. That and Big Love are the only reason I'll be keeping HBO into next year. It is too bad they are only going to be doing one more season. I've gotten into Entourage, mainly because it is on before Flight of the Conchords. It is cool too, but I do not mind if I miss it.
- I disagree with what you guys are saying about superhero stuff on TV and movies. I think a lot of times the origin stories are a drag and the stories where they are not bound by telling the origin story are usually better. It seems to me that a lot of times having to tell the origin story gets in the way of the story they want to tell. It works better with Heroes since they found a good way to give you a little bit of the origin stuff along the main story. Then they give you the cool flashback episodes to fill in the blanks. And even in the first season of Heroes, everyone was connected the characters just didn't know it yet, it was not like everyone was doing their own thing.

This is a pretty nutty feedback thread.
-I'm not sure how the priority over mics works with our connections. Although Chase and I have extremely fast connections, it's the distance thing that is generally the killer. Ask Halo 3's campaign mode...he'll tell you what's up.
-There was a lot of swearing in this episode, but I suppose that's coming with the territory nowadays. With the amount of rage that gets tossed around, it only makes sense that we'd lose it. Or Chase and I would...I mean I would.
-Origin stories can be hit or miss. I don't quite get it, but that's just the way it is. Heroes' started out bad, but then got REALLY good. At least that's my opinion. For a show that can't decide who it wants to keep dead, I suppose it's not too bad. Prison Break keeps getting more and more ridiculous with each passing episode, so all I've really got left is Dexter. And Dexter NEVER disappoints.
-One more thing, this week is going to have some badass game releases. I'm gonna check out a bunch of them, and I actually think I'm going to go back and give Kirby on the DS a shot because my DS kicks ass 4 months out of the year. This just happens to be one of those months.
-Barkley's Space Jam theme was truly mind-blowing. Even though the show seemed long, it was pretty fun, and everyone talking during other people's good word is something that I actually like. If it was another 20 minutes of me talking about what rare-ass Japanese retarted games I've been playing that no one cares about except maybe Mike, we'd lose a lot of listeners like this year's hiatus, which shall be referred to hereafter as Black January. In closing, people talking during good words is a good thing. In Japanese they call it "catch ball". It's nice to have someone else throwing some conversation back your way.
Nice job on the show Mike, another non-stinker!

Eric by the way, is a fountain of soundbites waiting to happen. I love that kid. He's just too classic. And since I know he doesn't listen to the show, your SFII pinball score has been ROCKED!
(Unfortunately, that luck bunghole still holds the all-time pinball score and it drives me nuts that he had the nerve to have one of his friends who is good at games get that score for him. Have some class Eric, seriously...)
Who am I kidding, he's not gonna see this either.

I think the online play problems are more of a sign that certain "dedicated" networks/connections suck over long distance than others. Skype works world-wide, so I wouldn't be too quick to put the blame on the distance. In any case, I don't notice any lag-time when talking to you guys or with any of my family back home, so if you guys notice anything like that it could be a sign that your internet connection can't keep up with us.
Or you could blame Eric... That is easier.

Your XBox Live argument doesn't hold up so well. That Chad isn't the host and suffers poorer performance is typical for anyone playing a game hosted by someone with a slower connection. The real problem is the person hosting not being able to keep up the output speed. Then the person playing with the faster speed tries to move and finds themself skipping back a step (or more) every once in a while.
The real proof is in download speeds. If the hardware can handle it, it doesn't seem to matter how far away it is, we could download it at entire Megabytes/second. If I can download something from a server in Chicago at 5 Mbps, then distance isn't the real problem, it is the servers hosting.
So sorry dude, I know you seem hellbent on always being right, but in this case you can't back up what you say. When you have 150 Mbps connections, then you might have a chance.
