First off I would like to vote No to Sammy Hagar Van Halen to open the show.
A couple of things,
- Meech is under contract for next season. Quincey is a restrict free agent. Both are out of minor league options, so they would have to clear waivers if they were to be sent down to Grand Rapids. Chances are neither would clear waivers.
- The reason I wanted Lilija gone, is the same reason you mentioned not wanting Chelios back. We have all these young guys and we have to see if they can play.
- The main reason they wanted to have the game at Wrigley as opposed to Soldier Field has to do with the wind going off the lake that being able to fill the stadium. Between Red Wings fans traveling tothe game and the promotions the Blackhawks were pulling out at the end of last season to fill up the UC, they should be able to fill up soldier Field for a novelty type game. If you remember the wind was a big issue last year for the game in Bufullo and would be even worse that time of year. It will be no where near the issue at Wrigley. Plus, Wrigley is surrounded by bars and will have a bit more atmosphere.
- In regards to Alex in Australia trip to Chi-town. A buddy of mine swears by the Bears preseason games. He goes to one every year and has a lot of fun. There is plenty to do in Chicago. If you end up at a Cubs game, you could pretty much just hang around Wrigleyville and have a good time. If you go to a Sox game, you are going to want to get out of there as soon as the game is over (A couple years ago, one of the radio guys got mugged out there after the game). Of course there is always Navy Pier, the Sears Tower, or any number of cool museums to check out. If you need so info or anything, you can send me a PM and I can help you out if you need it. And as for a place to stay in Detroit, when I went to a Wings game two years ago, we stay at the Courtyard by Marriot, right across the street from the Hilton and maybe half a mile from the Joe. It was a really nice hotel. We had a beautiful view of the river and Canada on the other side of it. It was a short cab ride to Comerica, Ford Field, CHeli's Chili Bar, and Hockeytown Cafe. Enjoy your trip.
