*warning!... geek radiation is about to hit dangerous levels all up in here!*
Hype, Hype, Hooray! a highlander game for the next gen due out March 31, 2009.
I'm a pretty big fan of the series and movies...and I'm HYPE-d (hype hype) about this. Only the third time that this series has had a videogame, It is the first time that a highlander game is made for a widely available system !
There hasn't been a highlander game since 1994 with "The Last of the Macleods " for the jaguar. (even I dont have one of these..but it was a respectable system...who else remembers Rayman, and Alien vs. Predator?? (the one with 3 choices ---alien, predator, or marines...or as the tag line said "You can be Alien, You can be Predator, or You can be Lunch!!! )
After some research, it turns out that way back in 1986 there was the unknown and unheard of epic-fail that was simply called "highlander" for *DRUM ROLL*.... the Sinclair ZX Spectrum ... *scratches his head like a monkey trying to do algebra*...(iI love old systems, and that barely even rings a bell. maybe I saw one at a garage sale way-back-when.)
(Enough of the video game history lesson on Immortals)
In the upcomming Highlander game you'll play as a previously unheard of member of the Clan Macleod....Owen MacLeod ! There will be cameos of several famous characters from the highlander universe including Connor MacLeod and Duncan MacLeod (and one of my favorites).... the wise and wity Methos has been confirmed as Owen MacLeod's mentor !
*puts on his trenchcoat, grabs his favourite sword, & cranks up Queen's "Princes of the Universe" to 11 !!! *
now I have TWO big reasons I MUST get a modern system (...the other reason being Final Fantasy XIII...)
(now, next time you think "I'm such a damn geek!" , just re-read this and you'll feel better about yourself....at least I didn't mention 20 sided dice or ancient mythology...LOLz.)
scroggs, Thim.

This even makes me want to get a new system to play this game, and I rarely play games, but I loves me some Highlander.
I can't express how cool I think this could be.
Although, do they really need to create a new immortal Macleod? Is the whole freaking Clan Macleod immortal these days.
Methos is cool, here is hoping for a Roger Daltry cameo..

Methos? Dude I thought you were talking about Mentos. Mentos is awesome if you just put Jean-Claude Van Damme in one of the commercials and throw it up on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_IAb_XmVa8But yeah, although this is a dorky conversation, it could be a sweet game. I don't see it actually being any good, but I hope someone proves me wrong.

TRAILER found! www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5FXwj7uZwE OR go to www.highlanderthegame.com to see the official higher res version end of trailer says 2008 AD... .... thats some darn fine quickening (for casual fans thats "the blue lightning effect"...aka "the thing that happens when immortals fight".). Looks 13,013 times better than the original movies effects did. so, did this trailer make anyone else think of the rolling stones song "sympathy for the devil" "I fought as a slave in the arenas of rome, as vesuvius laid pompei to waste" --so if you meet me have some courtesy, some sympathy, and some taste. " civilizations have come and gone, enemies have risen and fallen, " --I fought for ten decades, for the gods they made...I shouted out who killed the kennedys, when after all it was you and me...pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name...."my name is Owen Macleod!"I'll dare to say it..."Best Game of the Holiday Season. 2008."

to paraphrase from amazon, spanning 2000 years, from 1st Century Pompeii, to 9th Century Highlands of Scotland, to 14th Century Feudal Japan, and near-future New York One word "Wow"...I hope new york is post apocalyptic looking... how sweet it will be to chop some heads in feudal japan. tho the rule of 'no fighting on holy ground' means I can't do it at a shrine....*sigh*. Master the Claymore, Katana and Twin Gladius that sounds like some good weaponry to me, and all appropriate to the highlander universe. tho if it were up to me I'd make the Twin gladius twin Scimitars [to emulate a certain fictional charcter] and add a battle axe to mix things up. Luckilly it seems like you'll have several techniques so that should keep things fresh. Exploit your immortality by impaling yourself with enemy weapons to disarm them,(HOW UBERNESS IS THAT?! ...sick of slicing people up with your swords?...freak them out with the best disarm EVAR! destroy your enemies by using your body as a conduit for electricity and fire, and surviving long falls. ...I can't count how many times I've had a death by gravity in halo games. I know the human body can be a electric conduit, but FIRE? hmmm...*susspends disbelief..it is a videogame about immortals...it doesn't HAVE to make sence) Although, do they really need to create a new immortal Macleod? Is the whole freaking Clan Macleod immortal these days. Methos is cool, here is hoping for a Roger Daltry cameo.. no, they arent all immortal, tho i've ran into many with that statement in my surfing for clues on this game... only 5 now. and YES, there had to be a new one. it's a Highlander tradition to introduce a new MacLeod for every newformat of the series. Film --- TV Series --Cartoon Series-- Cartoon Movie--Videogame. Connor--- Duncan------ Quentin-------Colin-------and now, Owen. Plus there are fans out there that already KNOW everything to do with those characters...the kind that read highlander novels. So a fresh character for a fresh take on the series. Since Owen is the oldest immortal we get first hand experince with, that gives a chance to meet the others in a new frome of reference. It hasn't been announced if Duncan and Connor will be voiced by the original actors, which would be GREAT ...especially Connor as Christopher Lambert is getting a bit old to visually play a "character who stopped aging". *now to go hunt down screen shots for my desktop* have a good one, Thim.

OK! I can't believe that a thread over what is sure to be a really crappy low tier game is generating this much attention. Derek..you're just annoyed because its going to be the next big thing in afew months , and we are being "all about it" BEFORE you.....or because its view count is four times more than the resident evil 5 had ,and 4th most responded thread in this section. *high-five jonwings* but seriously, (..serious buisness), this game is going to be Ubersome... crackdown meets lost odessy, with chopping off heads!!! it looks AMAZING in the trailer and screen shots i've seen. (anyone else seen the helicopter one?..OHH MAN! ) speaking of, here are some SCREENSHOTS . www.gamershell.com/pc/highlander_the_game/screenshots.html ..yep the new macleod looks like a badass.(what little we get to see of him) Look at the scenery... ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/34024/Highlander-Screenshotspompei looks really pretty with classic architucture (and soon to be DOOMED by mt vesuvius!!!)..."near future new york" looks gritty, polluted and post-apocalytic. i think the really "dark & spooky ones" are a graveyard in the highlands or maybe pompei (post-destruction.)... I'm excited to see feudal Japan. now deadly serious,(I'm SO cereal..super cereal), next year this game will end up on your top games of the year, and you'll have to eat those words. *evil glaring stare.* (but yah...fable 2 seems good enough to be a decent 2nd teir reason for me to get a next gen system.) have a good one, Thim

PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360....
everything but the wii.....tho as a game with swords as weapons it might get ported eventually, but maybe there isn't enough buttons on the wii. I wouldn't know...wheres the wii expert wil ,when this thread need him? (or anyone who would admit to owning a wii...lol)
so even Chase could get into it, with his pc that can eat other pcs...
as I know my pc wouldnt be up to it, I must get a modern console...by next year *heres to holiday sales!*
have a good one, thim.

I would agree with you Thim. There are not far enough buttons for a game like that. However, the sword drill would be cool.
Having played a bit of "sword" play on the Wii with Force Unleashed, it would be fun. I am looking forward to seeing how well the sword play works. It will be interesting. I am planning on renting it soon.
