Hey guys ... I'm creating this tread to ask anyone who has any association with the show to help make it better. Derek, Chad, and myself have come to the conclusion that the only SOLID gimmick our shows have had is the "Good Word" segment ... and we would really like a few more.
I think Headshot Radio will forever be a video game themed show ... but it's tough to come up with good segments that can be done on any given week.
So if there is anything you guys would think would either be fun or spur good conversation ... post it here.

The Chase and Chad Japan Fun Time crazy hour... starring, Ch&Ch
Seriously though, I think the two of us have enough stories about Japan to provide a few minutes each week, and since it would only require the two of us (and you to record it) we could do it separately from the main show and have you just edit it in.

You could talk more Michigan Sports As I have said in the past the show is most interesting and entertaining when you talk about things you like. As long as you are doing that you are ok.

I don't wanna ruffle any feathers here, but if we talked about sports on the show, a stop would be put to it, immediately. Trust me, the others have tried to go on about fantasy hump Brett Favre-league or whatever the call it these days, and screaming occurs. Anger, screams, and murder.
Well, no murder, but I always feel like a little part inside of me has died.
A little Japanese corner wouldn't be bad, but I don't know if our audience wants anything like that. On second thought, I'm sure the audience wouldn't mind it because it's something somewhat original and something you can't get a piece of on other podcasts, it's just that Eric would veto it because he is a full-fledged Captain America. If it doesn't pertain to freedom and beating illegal immigrants, he's probably not on board. Then again, I can't think of a time Eric has ever been able to throw a ban-hammer on anything on our show. It may happen, who knows. We've all got stories. Lots of 'em.
The random talk is cool, I really don't want to cut that.
More tech talk could be included to be honest. Derek and I especially are SO up on tech it's embarrassing. Currently we're in a battle to decide whether a netbook is a good idea or not. I'll give you a hint on my perspective...I'm writing this on my netbook at the moment. He thinks an iPod touch is sufficient. These things could be discussed on the show ad nauseam.
Plus we're both big Leo Laporte fans, and condensing some of the stuff from his podcast onto our show in layman's terms could be fun.
Just a few thoughts.

Obviously you guys aren't going to be talking about Michigan Sports. That was more a joke directed at the other guys.
I think rehashing stuff from another person's podcast would be a bad idea. If I want to hear what some other guy is saying on his podcast, I'll listen to his not yours. I would recommend not doing something just because you feel you need to add another regular segment to the show. If you end up doing a segment becasue you feel you have to you are just going to end up limiting yourselves and probably end up dumping that segment eventually anyway.
Don't take this as a slam, but I do not think sticking to a set script or format is not you guys' strong suit. Its cool. You guys seem to be at your best when you are talking off the cuff about things you enjoyed the past week (games, movies, TV show) or interesting things that have happened lately. I would fully expect for Chad to talk about the netbook because it is something new and he is interested in, and that could lead to a more indepth conversation on the netbook. The way the show seems to be now, you can pretty much talk about what you want and get away with it.
And since you guys are a video game podcast, the easiest "new" segment I think you could do, would be to have each of you play the same game in a given week and then talk about that game for part of the show.
I actually think the Chase and Chad in Japan thing would be pretty interesting. I do not know if it would always fit in with the show every week. I would suggest spinning it out to a seperate 15- 20 minute (maybe not even that long) podcast of its own. You could include in the Headshot radio feed add you would have Headshot Radio presents Chase and Chad in Japan.
Then maybe I can get Headshot Radio Presents The Michigan Sports Show. I am not giving up just yet, mainly because I am having the hardest time finding a good Red Wings Podcast. The XM Radio is not cutting it in this regard.
Whatever you guys do is cool. I'll keep listening until I don't.

Chad and I telling stories of outrageousness would only encourage Eric to go on about why America is supposedly the best country in the whole universe and why god is jealous of americans for living there when he is stuck in heaven...

I would love to start the Michigan Sports Show back up ... expecilly now that I'm able to watch games again ... (all be in a few days later than everyone else) ... but I don't think it would be possible to convince Dustin to jump back into it.

Now that you mention it most podcasts are ripoffs other each other since they are basically a bunch of people talking about stuff that interests them

I'm with you Jonwings that our strong point is the banter that we have with one another. That's why I'm thinking about doing things this way. Every member of the show having their own personal segment ... I know what you're thinking, (What's the Good Word ... Word Up) ... and yes it would be essentially that ... but more broad than just "hey ... what'cha been playing?
As an Example ... during the week I'll jot down anything interesting or any topics I would like to discuss on the show and then I'll bring it up in my "good word" segment. Like for example ... why Hot Fuzz was so much better than Pineapple express.
And everyone on the show would do the same thing. I think it would be a good way to relaunch the show to go along with the 2008 awards. Now the only thing would be coming up with clever and funny names for each podjockies segment
Like ... "This week in the Hollywood Lifestyle" for Derek ... or "Six Foot Four Japan" for Chad ... or "What's the Good Word ... Word Up" for Eric.
Any thoughts?

"why Hot Fuzz was so much better than Pineapple express. " Or, "why the fuck mike can't ask a neutral question" Seriously dude, ever heard of "What was better, Hot Fuzz or Pineapple Express" For the record, I find Pineapple Express to be better, especially since on 2nd viewing I was bored with Hot Fuzz, but found Pineapple Express even funnier. To be fair, I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about, so it's pretty neutral to me.

I watched Pineapple Express this past weekend and Hott Fuzz is pretty much superior in everyway. In the past month I think I have watched Hott Fuzz 3 or 4 times and I cannot imagine doing the same with Pineapple Express. I like Pineapple Express and thought it was funny, but do not have the desire to watch it again really.
One last thing about the sports show, in the past when a I got tired of a podcast or it goes away, I usually do not have a problem finding something similar to replace it. I have yet to find anything to replace MSS. It seems all that is out there is just clips from post game shows or segments 5 min segments on sports radio, which aren't just doing it for me.

I used to listen PTI and a few other of the ESPN podcasts. They were always ones that I did not listen to right away, so I ended up dropping them. There are plenty of "general" sports podcasts out there that I could listen to, but I am looking for some more focused to the Michigan teams I am a fan of. I am sure if I lived in Michigan I would have the need for that type of show since I would have more easier access to those type shows on the radio and such.
And I do not know about the rest of you guys, but I am not so much a fan of overly produced, too professionally sounding podcasts. For me, podcasts need to sound like someone is recording them in their closet or something like that. The more professional they sound, the less charm they have.

I'm still rocking my old school 20gig monster from 3 or 4 years back. I can't justify getting another one until this one dies. When that does die, I'll be upgrading to the Touch, as I do not what to have to pay $100 a month to use an iphone like I would want to. I pretty much just use the ipod for podcasts when I am on the train to work.
